The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has responded to a shout this afternoon (Monday) following a crash on Calthorpe Road.
The helicopter has landed in the field of the Archery Club and the major road has been closed in both directions. Members of the public were directing cars to turn around at the junction of Calthorpe Road with Puckpool Hill and Appley Road but have now been joined by emergency services.
Vehicles from the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary as well as the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are on scene.
UPDATE @ 19:07 – The Air Ambulance has now left the scene and the road has reopened in both directions.
However, Police remain in the local vicinity making enquiries.
UPDATE TUESDAY – Police have now confirmed that 2 people were seriously injured in the incident.

I believe it is all clear now
It was only a matter of time. People travel at ludicrous speeds around this corner and along the stretch from Nettlestone to Oakwood School. Such a rarity to see a police car in this neck of the woods. Maybe sit out there on a Friday/Saturday night when the boy/girl racers are showing off.
There are NO speed cameras on the Island and no one bothers about
Signs that state speed limits.
The Island is Lawless when it comes to speed.
Boy Racers etc are laughing at the Law.
Yup, and the only people to blame are the Tories. Cut our police force by over a half.
Why blame governments?…why can’t people take responsibility for their actions?….If you want freedom, behave responsibly and make anti social behaviour a taboo….
Its Not all the boy racers all the time it’s the old drivers driving on wrong side of the road or stopping on corner
And I’m feeling glad all over
I remember directing traffic following a car crash, the police officer was absolutely disgusting. Probably still working for the force
Nobody takes any notice after the de-restricted road at Calthorpe Hill there is a 30mph sign coming towards Ryde they continue at high speed toeards Ryde along Appley Road towards Oakfield School and they do the same in the opposite direction for example from Monday to Friday a Speeding motor bike: On Appley Road 7.30am to 7.45am towards Seaview
3.15pm to 3.45pm from Seaview towards Ryde travelling at at least 60mph on a 30mph road and he is not the only one cars di it, vans do it and a bright orange Lamborghini particularly stands out. Some of these people even overtake other vehicles along Appley Road
I hear it constantly. Never seen a police car/van monitoring that stretch ever, yet they could easily set this up.
Will be worse when West acre is finished, the access road is going to be facing Appley Manor !
