The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has been scrambled to Lake this lunchtime (Tuesday) where a worker has become injured after falling into a ditch on a sit-on mower.
The incident has occurred in a small drainage gulley that runs alongside Lake Green Road. Emergency services were called shortly before 11:15.
Island Echo understands that a worker on a sit-on lawn mower has driven too close to the edge and has fallen down the grass verge. As a result of the height of the fall, the lawn mower has landed on top of the operative trapping him underneath.
3 pumping appliances from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have been mobilised to the scene to assist in the rescue of the trapped individual.
A winch has been set up and tied to a tree as firefighters work to lift the 4-wheeled John Deere mower off from the casualty.
Several resources from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, including an Operational Commander and an Enhanced Care paramedic, have been called to the scene working alongside doctors from the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.
The air ambulance was scrambled from its Thruxton base just after 11:30, landing at the recreation ground on The Fairway.
UPDATE @ 12:45 – The worker has been freed from underneath the mower and has been transferred into an awaiting ambulance.
He is expected to be taken to St Mary’s Hospital by land, accompanied by the flying doctors.

Hope the guy is okay soon.
With companies and Councils always adding more and more to workloads for their employees , pressure then adds to the mistakes likely to occur.
Looks like he tried to mow the raised bank to ease the burden for those strimming.
So he is lucky the blades never fell onto him.
With companies and Councils always adding more and more to workloads for their employees , pressure then adds to the mistakes likely to occur…Have you seen island roads sat in their vehicles doing nothing playing with their phones???
And setting up traffic lights when no working is in place???..
Who put that there? Seems like a failure of the council to do a full health and safety inspection before cutting the grass. Heads will roll for this cock up. Mark my words.
NAAA nothing will happen..
Health and Safety does not exist on the Island
Drive down Regent Street in Shanklin and you will see for yourself
Vehicles parked on both sides of the road making it dangerous for
other motorists and pedestrians
The Island is run by Idiots who dont have a clue about SAFETY!!
Some of the comments are totally ridiculous, a man has had a nasty accident (yes accidents do happen)….
And to make stupid comments is really not necessary….
Let’s hope the person is OK.
And Let’s hope none of you making stupid comments ever end up in a situation where help is needed …
The air ambulance was called due to the nature of the incident…
Total numptys ..
Hahaha hahahah hahahaha
I don’t usually put comments on here but I had to for this. Only a complete TOOL would drive a ride on mower that close to a ditch on wet grass. I do grounds maintenance for a living and common sense (which has gone right out the window these days) says the grounds wet and slippy therefore should NOT attempt to ride that close to any kind of slope or ditch. What were they thinking, hopefully this person is found at fault for not assessing the situation first and doesn’t get a pay out. It’s crazy how thoughtless people can be sometimes, it really does boggle the mind.
Exactly what I wrote at the top of the page.
The council can’t be there to hold everyone’s hand to make sure things are done correctly. It’s the vehicle operators fault for being lazy and getting too close to the ditch so they didn’t have to do as much strimming. The only person’s head that should roll is the employee not the employers.
Too many people can’t think for themselves anymore and I think that very sad.
We live and learn. At least he’s okay.
