The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has landed on the packed beach at Sandown in response to an emergency in the seaside town this afternoon (Tuesday).
It was just before 15:30 that the flying medics were alerted to a developing situation on Culver Parade, with just a short flight needed from Hayling Island to Sandown.
It is understood that Police were first on scene, and they have now been joined by paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and the specialist doctors and paramedics from HIOWAA.
A local ambulance crew, a critical care paramedic and an ambulance officer are all in attendance.
It is the second emergency of the afternoon for the air ambulance, which landed in Yarmouth at 13:45 in response to man being injured on a boat.
UPDATE @ 16:50 – HIOWAA has stood down from the incident as the casualty’s injuries are not as serious as first feared.
UPDATE @ 17:11 – Police have confirmed they are treating the incident as an assault – with 1 person under arrest.
