The number of addresses on the Isle of Wight that ambulance crews will not attend without Police officers present is the lowest in the country, figures have revealed.
Just 9 addresses out of 70,000 residential properties on the Island are ‘red flagged’, meaning 999 responders should take care when attending an address and should wait for Police backup.
The Isle of Wight NHS Trust has refused to inform Islanders where these risky addresses are.
On the other end of the spectrum, some 756 addresses in the North West Ambulance Service region have been declared as red flagged.
Victoria White, Head of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service at the Isle of Wight NHS Trust, has said:
“We abhor violence against ambulance staff which will not be tolerated. We will support any action that would see the perpetrators punished to the full extent of the law.
“Like other ambulance services, we have well-established procedures to protect staff as far as possible against violence and aggression while on duty and to support anyone who has been subjected to verbal or physical assaults in the course of their work.
“This includes flagging addresses where concerns have been raised in the past, CCTV inside ambulances and the recent introduction of body worn cameras.”
