Plans have been submitted to add 8 houses near to Aldi and the Spithead Business Centre in Lake.
The proposed development, submitted by F. W. Developments, could see a range of 2, 3 and 4-bed houses built on a new road, behind Whitecross Lane.
Currently, the greenfield site is overgrown but in 2009 outline planning consent was given for 7 homes as part of the Merrie Gardens development.
Now, new plans submitted to the Isle of Wight Council add a unit and, following pre-application advice from council planning officers, the houses have been turned around to face the business park, instead of Whitecross Lane.
In planning documents, agents MDJ Architectural Services said the changes creating a private close brought many benefits to the scheme, including larger back gardens, more space for the houses and more convenient parking.
Agents also said the development seeks to make the best use of the land without causing any detrimental impacts on neighbouring properties.
You can view the application, 20/01822/FUL, or comment on proposals at the IW Council planning portal until 4th December.

Why is any development AT ALL considered for Greenfield sites? Plenty of Brown and greyfield sites available. But wait, that means the developers might not make quite so much profit from them, so IWC continue to let their “mates” have the plum sites….
it is another greenfield site – the council had better be refusing each and everyone of these developments, otherwise they are in direct conflict with their climate emergency announcement.
we need to preserve and protect all land that has plant life on it, as this is our only natural, land based atmospheric CO2 extraction method available. nothing made by people comes close.
F. W. Developments, are another bunch of greedy, self serving idiots that are planning to destroy natural habitats, wrecking precious greenfield sites and increasing the pollution, refuse and creating more gridlock on the roads, just to line their pockets with cash
As our country keeps taking in ever more from elsewhere, the knock in pressure from those escaping such and coming to places like the Island will force ever more greenfield sites to be destroyed, not for a while, but forever.
We have been in a lockdown for nearly a year why are they planning to build houses near aldi and spithead business centre when there are shops factory’s closing and closed due to the pandemic where is the work being created to build these houses on the island
They have no need to find jobs for those inner city types arriving to fill the masse building here. For they don’t need any. Having huge families, rent and c. tax paid for, selling dope and ‘chawed positions’ along with mug ging, robbing, extortion, they have little time for real jobs anyway.
Central Gov will pay our council their council tax and universal credits, AND our council receive a fee for taking such off the inner city councils over crowded hamlets.
Ruination of this Island forever.
Vote this council OUT.
“…without causing any detrimental impacts on neighbouring properties” – It should also read “however we’re quite happy to be detrimental to a greenfield site and destroy the countryside, just as long as the neighbours are happy!”
