It was reported by local weather forecaster IW Met Service yesterday (Thursday) that temperatures overnight would reach as low as -8c, and they practically did with a chilly -7.9c recorded in Shalfleet overnight (Thursday into Friday).
Comparatively cold readings were captured by IW Met Service in Calbourne (-7.7c) and elsewhere in the West Wight with the mercury dropping to -6.9c in Ningwood.
Over in Godshill temperatures reached -6.2c whilst in Blackwater it reached as cold as -5.5c.
Although the temperature recorded in Calbourne is very cold, it is still a long way warmer than the record low of -17c that was recorded by IW Met Service in Chillerton back in December 2010.
It looks as if the Island is finally coming to the end of the cold spell with temperature set to increase over the weekend.
