4 people have been arrested following an disturbance at a block of flats in Ryde during the early hours of this morning (Thursday), which came just a short time after Armed Police were deployed in the town.
Police descended on Oakvale in Oakfield at around 03:15 following reports of a disturbance at an address in Building 8.
It’s here that officers arrested 4 people on suspicion of affray.
A 28-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear. This follows a report at 18:11 yesterday evening (Wednesday) of a man in possession of an item described as a firearm in South Street, Newport.
Heavily-clad armed officers were whizzed across the Solent to Fishbourne to assist firearms colleagues, with the focus of the incident moving to Argyll Street in Ryde.
Local response and patrol teams took up position in nearby streets including Queens Road. However, officers – including mainland colleagues – were stood down shortly after arriving.
Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed that a 56-year-old man, a 30-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman all remain in custody, alongside the 28-year-old man.
This latest incident comes just weeks after a stabbing at Oakvale, as previously reported by Island Echo.
Police remain on scene as enquiries continue.
