4 people have been arrested following an disturbance at a block of flats in Ryde during the early hours of this morning (Thursday), which came just a short time after Armed Police were deployed in the town.
Police descended on Oakvale in Oakfield at around 03:15 following reports of a disturbance at an address in Building 8.
It’s here that officers arrested 4 people on suspicion of affray.
A 28-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear. This follows a report at 18:11 yesterday evening (Wednesday) of a man in possession of an item described as a firearm in South Street, Newport.
Heavily-clad armed officers were whizzed across the Solent to Fishbourne to assist firearms colleagues, with the focus of the incident moving to Argyll Street in Ryde.
Local response and patrol teams took up position in nearby streets including Queens Road. However, officers – including mainland colleagues – were stood down shortly after arriving.
Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed that a 56-year-old man, a 30-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman all remain in custody, alongside the 28-year-old man.
This latest incident comes just weeks after a stabbing at Oakvale, as previously reported by Island Echo.
Police remain on scene as enquiries continue.

I understand your feelings, without doubt with the internet and social media now means anything and everything is reported almost as it happens, a lot of things would be reported once a week in the County Press years ago. These events are now hitting the headlines at an alarming rate, having said that this once Quiet tranquil Island is now experiencing a surge of events, if you believe inner city’s are where these sort of events happen you are very mistaken. This is sadly normal life in the vast majority of the UK, this Island is part of the UK.
Successive governments have failed to deal with the causes and nothing will change soon.

What many dim people on here don’t realise is these people earn thousands tax free from drug growing and dealing.
Yet these same people claim subsidised rent, council tax, usually have a least one child with issues to claim a disability car and allowance, yet still whinge for free food, school clothing school transport and are vile to all who live near them.
Don’t fall for it, give nothing to the charities that support this type, for they are milking it, will never be grateful and just see those who give as weak.

Quite obvious drugs related. The same block as the stabbing, which was because of stolen drugs, so maybe this was revenge.. Same block, same people.. they should have been locked up last time. The smell of cannabis around that block is often horrendous, no doubt supplying the rest of the druggies in that area.. Those saying crime was always here, maybe so, but years ago it was dealt with, a lot harsher than now… was no ‘ wrist slapping’ back in the 1700’s or earlier to be sure !!
Agree with you on that, yhe police should be able to do whst they did years ago!!! Give them a proper going over, maybe then they will think twice about it.
