Police are continuing their search for a suspect after a man in his 20s suffered a stab wound in Oakfield, Ryde yesterday afternoon (Friday).
As first reported by Island Echo, Police and paramedics descended on the Oak Vale area shortly after 15:30 when they received reports of an assault – that a male had been stabbed and was bleeding.
The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was immediately scrambled to the scene and landed at Oakfield Football Club, just yards away from where the casualty was found sitting on a wooden bench at the bottom of Slade Road.
Armed Police were then deployed to Oak Vale and conducted a search of properties in a bid to locate the perpetrator – despite the victim claiming to have ‘fallen’ on the knife.
With nothing found, Armed teams were stood down and the incident scaled back. However, it’s understood searches to locate a male have been taking place overnight.
Cordons remain at either end of a footpath that runs to the western edge of the football ground as investigations into yesterday’s incident continue.
There is also a cordon between Oak Vale and Meaders Road.
The victim was taken to St Mary’s Hospital where he has received treatment for a puncture wound to the side of his chest/back. He has since been discharged.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has this afternoon said:
“We were called at 3.31pm yesterday (27 May) with reports of an assault in Oak Vale, Oakfield.
“A man in his 20s had suffered a puncture wound to his back which is not life-threatening and he has since been discharged from hospital.
“Officers continue to make enquiries.
“No arrests have been made at this time”.
UPDATE – Cordons have now been lifted in the area, although Police investigations continue.
UPDATE @ 21:50 – Police have confirmed that a male has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm following yesterday’s stabbing.
He has been taken into custody for questioning.

“Fallen on a knife” warning then was it.
That’s usually what people say when admitted to A&E with a butternut squash forced into in an eye watering orifice.
Get your point though.

All because of drugs, probably !!!
Also gets Air ambulance, paramedics, police and armed police – while other people die for waiting 10hrs for an ambulance and all you get from police is a crime reference number if you’re lucky !. As previous comment – if you are a druggy or criminal or generally a low life chav you get everything, if hard working and honest do good citizen you’re neglected. What happened to equality in services ?.
Stay classy Oakfield
