A Yarmouth man who drove to work whilst disqualified and without the correct insurance because he didn’t want to let his employer down has been given a further 3-month disqualification.
Harry Blazeby, 25, of Bouldnor Mead in Yarmouth, pleaded guilty to driving without third party insurance and to driving whilst disqualified when he appeared in front of Magistrates on Tuesday.
Ann Smout prosecuting, told the court that on 11th November at 15:00 in the afternoon, Blazeby was seen driving on the Military Road by Police officer. The vehicle – a Vauxhall van – was travelling at some speed.
Officers followed the van along the Military Road in the direction of Freshwater before Blazeby turned into Brook Village Road. He was stopped at the roadside by Police after they activated their blue lights.
Blazeby immediately admitted to Police that he was a disqualified driver and that he didn’t have the correct insurance to drive the vehicle.
The 25-year-old wasn’t interviewed as a result of his clear and frank admissions of the offences he had committed.
Blazeby was convicted of drug driving in May 2022 and was sentenced to a 12-month driving ban, as previously reported by Island Echo. It was during this earlier court appearance that he told Magistrates he wouldn’t be able to take up a new job as a chef in Ventnor as he would be unable to travel the distance without a car.
Defending, Henry Farley said that his client had been getting a lift to his job by family members, but that he chose to drive himself as they weren’t around to take him to work. Mr Farley also added that Blazeby took the van that day because he wanted to get to work and didn’t want to let his employers down.
Magistrates added a further 3 months onto Blazeby’s driving ban. He was also ordered to pay a fine of £280, costs of £85 and a surcharge fee of £112.

Pittance… vehicle should have been crushed…
Any decent employer would sack the idiot.
But then you’d moan he was on the doll?! 😀
Given it was 15-00 in the afternoon there are buses at that time and would of been a better option, now cost him more, increased ban and probably not get insurance in future and still loose his job !.
So someone who was driving whilst banned has been given a further three months to drive whilst banned? Well clearly such a deterrent ban worked the first time didn’t it? No?
Is he friends with the magistrates or something? A 12 month original ban and now a pitiful 3 month extension? What next, a 4 month extension?
