A chef from Yarmouth has had his hopes of taking up a new job in Ventnor dashed after being banned from driving for 12 months.
Harry Blazeby, 24, of Bouldnor Mead in Yarmouth, pleaded guilty to drug driving when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Friday (6th May).
The court heard from the Crown Prosecution Service that Blazeby was stopped by Police on Afton Road, Freshwater on 26th February this year.
There was a debate in court over the reasoning for the 24-year-old being pulled; the prosecution said it was due to the car flagging as being insured solely by a woman, with the defendant stated it was because he was seen smoking a joint of cannabis.
In any eventuality, Magistrates heard that Blazeby failed a roadside drugs wipe after admitting to smoking cannabis.
The trained chef represented himself in court and explained how he has not only lost his current job, but wouldn’t be able to take up a new job in Ventnor as he would be unable to travel the distance without a car.
Magistrates handed Harry Blazeby a 12-month driving ban and fined him £120, as well as ordering him to pay £85 costs with a £34 surcharge.
Can’t afford a bus pass, can afford drugs though
Why does it matter that he is a Chef?!
‘Cause he’s in the soup.
All chef’s that I know are piss heads not pot heads!!
Herbs maybe?
what does that say, NO drug taking in any form as if yiu drive you could end up in this situation …ITS NOT Worth it
Chef!? More like a burger flipping loser
Well Harry there you go – the law DOES apply to you. Excellent deserved result.
Well said, Plato. The sooner this message gets to all of the other junkies over here, the better; for everyone’s safety.
How does smoking a joint class you as junkie?
On the most backward, narrow minded comment section in England… Probably
What an archaic backwards law we’ve got ourselves into, definately time for a change, especially after viewing the above comments, dear ‘o’ dear, a plant god gave us and now look, the alchohol lobby wants it banned..’for it is the devils weed’..says who? God?..the moment it is realised in the UK that millions have been made by keeping it illegal while it is ok to manufacture via big pharma and legaly export to the USA..the law is an ass, if it were bad for you it wouldn’t be legal in many countries now..a plant made by god that is free for the human race..except for the above bigots that want it criminalised.
another selfish twat… so you smoke some weed jump in a car, whilst in fairy land, feeling great, and a kid runs out in front of you… how fast are your reactions when stoned ? Why had you not noticed the kid earlier… ? Selfish…. just enjoying your high sod the world eh ? Why get in the drivers seat.. ?? Same as with alcohol..
Brilliant answer, incredible. I couldn’t agree more. W E L L, S A I D !!!
Driving stoned is like driving drunk, your senses to operate a lethal machine are impaired.
If youd lost an innocent friend or relative in a road accident caused by self entitled stoner I’m sure your views would be different.
Get stoned if you must, but dont be stoned behind the wheel of car, idiot.
i dont advise driving stoned, i was pointing out the law is an ass when it comes to the hypocritycal standards applied to cannabis The younger generation prefer cannabis to alchohol so that has the tax man very worrried, your all being feverish over a plant, pmsl..dont drive impared, open your eyes, if you have used cannabis in the past month you get a positive drugs test, i looked up the data and the government implemented a lower legal amount than advised and now everyone is ‘stoned’ after a joint several weeks ago, if this happend to alchohol there’d be riots and the courts full of drink drivers.Legal limit lowered to impact on drivers.
This is not an article about cannabis legalisation.
It’s about drug driving.
One could make the same flawed argument as yours if alcohol were illegal – in both cases it’s a drug which impairs perception and as such is not suitable for driving.
There’s no debate to be had on this.
Surfingwithsharks; I simply LOVE your sense of humour !!!
Should stick to carving joints rather than smoking them
People do not think of these things, or other people.. just think of themselves… they get in car, leave brains at home…
It is time now to introduce much clearer limits on drug and alcohol levels for drivers. There is currently a very confusing set of legal limits. For example how can there possibly be a legal limit for driving with illegal drugs in the body ? – it is a nonsense , no wonder people are confused.
It would be much clearer to have a zero limit for all illegal drugs and alcohol when driving, no exceptions, then hopefully many lives would be saved and many families would not have to suffer the loss of a loved ones. many counties have one or more ZERO levels in place – why not the UK.
I hear you but your proposal would be too extreme and Draconian for a modern society where fairness is a pillar of society.
Zero limit for alcohol would mean no driving for several weeks after consuming a couple of pints.
Likewise the limit for weed (yes I know it’s illegal, but there still is a level after which it becomes unsafe to drive) would mean potentially three months of not being able to drive a car.
Both of those are unrealistic and impractical.
It’s great to have binary policies as per your suggestion, but not in a mature and progressive society. Rather, it’s the stuff of Daily Mail or North Korea.
He has got away far too lightly, for someone who thinks more of his drug habit than getting a job; and also thinks more of driving than getting his car properly insured.
