23-year-old William Kulik from Ryde has been handed a 35-month prison sentence after stabbing a man in the torso in Ryde and attacking another man outside a nightclub in Newport.
It was on 27th May this year that Police responded to reports that a man in his 20s has been stabbed in the torso with a 6.5-inch knife, as previously reported by Island Echo.
The incident occurred shortly before 15:45 in the afternoon at Oakvale, Oakfield. The victim, who was bleeding heavily, fled the area along a footpath. Island Echo reporters then located the stab victim on nearby Slade Road and directed Police to his location.
The Air Ambulance was scrambled to the scene but, thankfully, the victim’s injuries were not as serious as first feared. He was taken to St Mary’s Hospital and discharged a short time later.
It didn’t take long for Police to identify their prime suspect – William Kulik of Mayfield Road in Ryde. Armed Police were deployed in the search for Kulik. He was later arrested and subsequently charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
Appearing at Isle of Wight Crown Court on Monday 5th July, he admitted the offence.
Kulik appeared at the same court again on Monday (31st October) where he entered guilty pleas to further offences of affray, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possession of a knife. This relates to an incident outside Fever nightclub in Newport on 15th January this year in which it was reported that a man was repeatedly punched and kicked.
The case was adjourned until yesterday (Thursday) when Kulik was sentenced for all matters and was jailed for a total of 35 months.
Detective Sergeant Tom Kenney of Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“Carrying a knife will simply never be tolerated by police. Making that decision to pick up a bladed weapon creates the very real risk that you could kill or seriously injure someone.
“This case makes that shocking reality clear. The victim in this case survived the injuries inflicted by Kulik, but the outcome could have been significantly worse.
“We regularly make proactive efforts to target knife carriers and remove weapons from the streets. This work won’t stop, and we hope that anyone thinking of carrying recognises that there are serious consequences both for themselves and others when they make that decision to pick up a weapon.”
3 other men have been sentenced previously for their involvement in the incident outside Fever nightclub. They are 24-year-old Curtis Jenkins of Church Road in Wootton, 24-year-old Adam Sills of Alexandra Road in Ryde and 23-year-old Ashley Chamberlain of Arthur Moody Drive in Carisbrooke.
The trio pleaded guilty to affray on 27th September this year and were each handed a 17-week sentence, suspended for 12 months, when they appeared again at the Magistrates’ Court on 21st October.

Although not long enough I’m glad he’s actually going to prison and didn’t get a suspended sentence. There has to be absolute zero tolerance to knife crime in order to try and stamp it out.
Very soft sentencing yet again, it was attempted murder, no ifs or buts…when will the judges wake up??.
Animal! Should have got longer.
Will kulik fell off hard lol
Agree. Was never a bad kid at school…just lazy. Kinda sad to see this from him, perhaps he will learn this time.
Carrying out knife crime will never be tolerated so he has been locked up for 35 months….. sounds more like it is tolerated
What is happening on this once beautiful peaceful island.
Scum from the mainland came over and crap parentage on the island
Being paid to breed has just bought more unloved and vile beings into the world
The Kulicks aren’t from the mainland. I was at school with his Dad. Islanders through and through
Once again you shout your big mouth off not knowing the facts
Scum from the Mainland? You need to look closer to home and stop blaming us!!
Sooo according to government website:
“The maximum penalty for an adult carrying a knife or weapon illegally is either 4 years in prison, an unlimited fine or both.”
He was sentenced to just shy of 3years for stabbing someone with a knife and in a seperate incident he carried a knife and caused actual bodily harm.
Hmmmmm. Nuff said.
If you carry a weapon then you intend to use it. It should be a mandatory sentence of 10 years just for carrying and a mandatory life sentence if the weapon was used.
I bet mummy real proud of her little prat
