Police are currently in attendance at a road traffic incident on a busy road between Yarbridge and The Downs this afternoon (Thursday) where 1 driver has been arrested for providing a positive drugs wipe for cannabis.
The incident occurred at around 11:40 on the corner of the road where The Mall meets Yarbridge and has seen a blue Ford Focus collide with a Transit Van – the focus taking the brunt of the damage.
Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary are present at the scene and were joined by paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Traffic on New Road, Morton Road and Marshcombe Shute is even heavier than usual given the current roadworks in the area.
1 of the drivers has been arrested for driving whilst unfit through drugs (cannabis) after testing positive in a roadside drugs test.
This is the 2nd drugs drive arrest of the day after the driver involved in an RTC in Carisbrooke earlier today was also arrested.

Our roads are riddled with this scum, and they put us all in danger….lifetime ban, no ifs or buts…
As non driving cyclist, the quality of car driving I see IOW is the worst of any area…many drivers don’t use vehicle indicators, meaning their intended direction & movement often need to be guessed at.
Fair comment, I as a car driver and non cyclist almost every day see cyclists never use hand signals, regularly ignore red lights and many don’t have lights even at night, or have bright coloured clothing day or night. Agree totally with comment that car drivers do not use indicators see it all the time. Driving standards are bad on the Island and cyclists are no better.

They should lose their licence for 1 year, take a drug drive awareness course then a retake of their driving test. Too soft on Cannabis users who drive.
One year give us a break. Anybody prosecuted for drink or drugs whilst driving should be banned for life.

How many drivers are under the influence of prescribed drugs in their system, never mind any illegal ones?

But as we have seen this week, a SuspendedSentence means nothing as they usually get off even if they offend again while serving it.
Good idea. But on this island, Judges are way too soft even when a person has a suspended sentence applied to them. They still get off with just a warning.
They should lose their licence for life
Some teenager on a scooter (800x less maximum force on impact with pedestrian) got like 2 years for drink-driving it as I remember so here I think we’re looking at minimum 1600 years ban for how dangerous that one was 😉
disagree, cannabis can still be in your system whether you’re intoxicated by it or not. it can be used for a vary of medicinal reasons and not everybody does it recreationally. 2mg is the legal limit of cannabis which is the equivalent to one toke on a joint, but you can drink a pint and still drive? i know what would impair my judgement more lol, very ignorant

I wonder if the police inform the driver’s insurance Co that the driver has had a crash and subsequently failed a drug/drive test ? That would so much more painful as the DDwould not have their car fixed under their insurance…
if they have insurance…so many are already disqualified from driving but don’t seem to care…no tax, licence or insurance…
This does not surprise me, with or without drugs, this bend is a collision magnet.
I was had within a few feet of where this commercial vehicle driver was, by a young driver coming down the hill and losing it.
The problem is that people drive down the hill at 30+ and the bend gets tighter and tighter, then before they know it the car is sliding across the road. There is no chance for the driver coming up the hill, you only have time to brace and turn away a bit. Like me this is now another island business that will lose money.
Especially with a bit of dope in the system, reaction times will be much less. An absolute low life, i suspect if he appears in the court circular he will be named and shamed and pilloried by his local community. I for one shall not be losing sleep over his injuries and loss of transport tonight.
How can we get these idiots off of our roads BEFORE they hit other law abiding people.
