Cross-Solent operator Wightlink is advising of 2-hour delays to its Fishbourne-Portsmouth car ferry service this morning (Thursday) – but the reason remains unclear.
Every single ferry to and from the Isle of Wight on the busy route is listed as being delayed by some 2 hours, with the cancellation of the 10:40 from Portsmouth Gunwharf and the 11:40 from Fishbourne.
No reason has been given at the time of publication.
St Clare and St Faith appear to be continuing the service across the Solent, with the much-larger flagship Victoria of Wight currently moored up.
The current timetable suggests that things may get back to normal by this afternoon.
UPDATE @ 09:08 -Wightlink has confirmed that the delays are a result of overrunning works to the shore mooring system at Portsmouth.
Wightlink apologises for delays to some customers.
UPDATE @ 15:32 – The service has now returned to timetable.

Wow! Poor service and a lack of information all at once. Get in Sh!itelink!!!
Sh!telink are a corrupt company that needs replacing buy a ferry company run by island council tax payers, then we sharholders would have a say in how it’s run….
What? The same as the Council run shambles between East and West Cowes?
We could then get a new ferry built by the same people that built the floating bridge.
Literally no information at all other than turning up to be told 2 hour delay. They did however run a 820, captain has said delay due to Victoria being taken out of service last night.
Still if this was last night, they still hadn’t updated their timetable until at least 745 this morning.
it also happened yesterday, Wednesday. Turned up to find the 07.40 was cancelled, no reason given, but the 8.20 ran.
For a so called “service,” haha ha, that costs so much its hopelessly unreliable. The Island deserves better than these pirates!
Bridge or Tunnel is the only solution.
A two hour wait?? has the captain lost his rainbow lanyard, or is it the new eco wind powered trans diversity ship doesn’t have the sea persons to sail it?
Probably run out of bog roll.
Calm down snowflake
How am I a snowflake oh wise enlightened one?..ever heard of having a laugh, I guess not.
Lol never heard of a laugh snowflake?
Must be a Bank Holiday Weekend coming up
Exactly what is a shore mooring system ?
also known as… Rope.
it’s the big (very expensive) vaccum sucker mooring thing they have, which is supposed to stick to the side of the ships to hold them in place,.. rather than employing a minimum wage person to tie a rope up.
that’s part of the reason they have to charge so much (as well as the super expensive, unreliable ‘hybrid’ ship)
but apparantly that’s progress
I bet there was a brown envelope involved somewhere…..
Customers should be compensated when such things happen.
How these Ferry Companies can charge so much is shocking.
Not a word from Barbeque Bob.
Soon it will be £100.00 for a day return for locals travelling to
Pompey.
So do we think that yet again the super fancy expensive eco friendly Victoria of Wight is playing up again?
Quelle surprise!
It’s the mooring system not the boat. But sure let’s all go back to diesel everything and see if we can finish the planet off a bit quicker.
Superb service as usual.
Hospital appointment missed- thanks Mr Greenwood. Couldn’t do things properly at Royal Mail and now Wightlink is suffering.
I have travelled over for many hospital appointments in the last year, I ALWAYS leave 3 or 4 hours early just in case…. it’s a pain but better than missing an appointment. I also booked into Travelodge Portsmouth the day before when QA asked me to be there at 8am. Never trust either ferry operator!
It’s 5pm and they’re still running an hour delay and cancelling sailings. Maybe time to ask for another update from them?
To their credit, I was on the 11 am boat, which sailed on time. Nobody was left behind and they had done their best to get everyone over without too much of a delay. I also received an email from Wightlink at 7.28 yesterday morning.
You were probably on a completely different service that just happened to leave at 11am. The fact that nobody was left behind speaks volumes for the staff of Wightlink, working with no support from senior management.
