A collision involving 2 cars on a main road to the West Wight is causing heavy delays on the outskirts of Newport this afternoon (Monday).
At just before 17:15, the crash occurred on Forest Road at Vittelfields Crossroads – the junction at Whitehouse Road and Betty Haunt Lane.
Police are in attendance and traffic is building in both directions.
UPDATE @ 18:50 – The incident has now been cleared.

Seems to be so very many cars here now, and many people drive on narrow roads as if they are on motorways.
Too many accidents here, they need to fit up hidden speed cameras as fixed ones are no good as people flash motorists and give a false impression that few speed when most do.
More idiots will be along soon…
Yes you…
Why, are you coming back?
Yes you
…
When are they going to improve the sightlines at this junction. Already fatalities here and nothing has been done.
its a dangerous junction, the council should install a roundabout or lights there.
Where is my comment, or is it only the trolls that get published?
More trolls will be along soon…
due care and attention needed that’s all
Not all accidents make it on Island Echo, driving on the Island is now a challenge and it’s generally Islanders that give little consideration to others, I drive every day and several times you will be driven at,see jumping red lights, overtaking on bends, not giving clearance to pedestrian, cyclist or horses. Why ? . 5mins extra on your journey better than an Accident that could create huge delays for many and you possibly facing loosing you’re job and prison for careless or dangerous driving.
Many people supported a proposal for traffic lights there !!! The Council said they were ‘thinking’ of staggering the crossroads (Which would be worse than the present arrangement) but nothing has been done. Those crossroads are dangerous whatever the quality of the driving.
Staggered junction,
well, hopefully not like the mess at smallbrook roundabout on which, when approaching from westridge, you have to indicate right to go straight on
Did you say indicate? Novel experience for an isle of wight driver
No you don’t! Hand in your licence for God sake.
That is a dangerous junction, should be stop signs instead of give way signs…. make drivers come to a full stop before pulling out.. more chance to actually look at what is coming… National Speed limit, so oncoming traffic is NOT doing 30 mph ! Too many drivers in a hurry… to die maybe ?
More bad driving on the IW
Chop down all those hedges for a start, and make up your minds as to what to do.
