Police are investigating after a 26-year-old man was seriously assaulted at an address in Sandown during the early hours of yesterday morning (Sunday).
Forensic examinations have been taking place at the property on Fitzroy Street as detectives investigate the circumstances of the incident, which has left the victim with head and facial injuries.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service was called to George Street in the town at just gone 04:00 yesterday morning following the discovery of a man with head injuries. He was conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment and Police were called to the scene.
Investigations led officers to supported housing accommodation on nearby Fitzroy Street, where 2 individuals were arrested yesterday lunchtime.
Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that a 26-year-old man from Ryde and a 25-year-old man from Sandown were arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent. They have since been released on police bail.
A mainland-based forensic investigator travelled across to the Isle of Wight late yesterday afternoon to gather evidence from the address, with particular attention paid to a ground floor flat.
Anyone with information relating to this incident can phone Police on 101, quoting 44200432983.

well – and so it continues.
Wait, until all this massive building takes place soon in Ryde and other areas. The homes themselves are bad enough, destroying green fields, destroying wild animal and plant life that has been there since time began.
BUT to then see it filled with ‘this sort’ which will happen as our council are paid to take in such from mainland councils is even more disgusting. The ruination of this once lovely Island ‘because it was different’ and soon it ‘won’t be’. THINK and see where these problems stem from.
Vote them OUT next given chance
Do you know who was involved?
Were they new arrivals to the island then? Or are they home grown.
Are you saying everyone who comes to the island is a criminal?
Mainland as usual, scum bags
Scum are scum regardless if where they came from.
I’m thinking some of these nasty negative comments are made by scumbags
More like home grown inbreds.
No John, 2 Late isn’t saying everyone who comes to live here from the mainland is bad. The point is, are you aware of the plans for P Feath development in Ryde? 904 homes to be built and filled with “one way, travellers from far away countries” and possibly trouble makers from the mainland inner cities that nobody wants. The council get payed handsomely for taking these types. The island definitely does not need or want this development. Then in Bullen, another 400 homes. God only knows who will be housed there.
Shut up
The island has always had undesirable people, stop trying to make out its some kind of utopia. It hasn’t been desirable for the last 50 years. Wherever there is people there will be crime.
This sense of superiority that some islanders have is ridiculous and quite nauseating…
Wholeheartedly agree. You would think from some of the bigoted comments that his island exists solely for their own exclusive use.
Indeed, yourself included. One of the most bigoted jack@ss on here.
The amount of crime on the Island is increasing – this is an indisputable fact whether you like it or not.
I used to live in this property and it was a great place for support full of people working on their recovery- that was until Housing First got their hands on it and everything changed. It went from a dry house to a wet house overnight, with no warning to us existing tenants. I ended moving out because I couldn’t cope and I think it’s so sad that it’s come to this now. I think people should be aware of this because it’s not the fault of the organisation that originally ran the accommodation, it’s the fault of lack of funding and changes that shouldn’t have ever happened. It changed my life for the better when I first moved in but less than a year later it was a total, untenable mess. So glad I was able to move out when I did but others aren’t so fortunate.
Totally agree, so glad you turned your life around. You can not house vulnerable adults that are really trying to change there lives with active drunks and drug takers. There were no problems here for 15 yrs, but now it is appalling
Thank you. I really think it is such a shame it all ended this way. You are completely right- it’s ridiculous that they mixed clean/sober people in recovery with active users and drinkers. We didn’t get a letter, a phone call, a meeting, nothing; just a shock on Christmas Day when I got locked out of my own house by one of the new tenants (which happened consistently and the whole building smelled of drink and drugs). Two Saints and Real World Trust who originally ran it were wonderful and helped me to turn my life around, but due to the Council wanting more money, it got sold onto Housing First. Although it was a quiet, settled place for a long time, it ought to be somewhere secluded now where the trouble can’t disturb the neighbours, I do feel sorry for them. I understand they are trying to get people off the streets, but there’s no input from HF whatsoever and zero aim to get those people back on their feet and into recovery. Sadly I’m not surprised to see it in the news.
I know l don’t live in Fitzroy street but as a Sandown resident I wholeheartedly supported this project when run by real world trust (a friend was very involved at one time). They helped so many people and did such good things, there were AA meetings in the cabin etc. But now when you walk past there are people drinking outside and antisocial shouting and swearing. It’s appalling, everyone knows that you can not house vulnerable people with criminals! But the council just keep throwing money at housing first so that they can say that they are doing something, and COUNCELLOR CLARE MOSDELL can get her face in the paper saying she supports them. It just shows not all charities care. Really good luck to you. I hope the place gets closed down and the vulnerable get the care they need.
Totally agree, but there is no scrutiny of these organisations, ie Two Saints, just more money thrown at them! Never a problem until they took over!!!!
Don’t worry the courts will protect us from this scum!!! Which really means they will be given
a suspended sentence , financial support and a holiday.
THIS PROPERTY USED TO BE A DRY HOUSE ran by a charity that was taken over by HOUSING FIRST about a year ago. There were never any problems and the residents had lots of input and activities in their workshop. Now it is full of drunks and druggies who are constantly loud and antisocial, disturbing the flats and surrounding area AND RECEIVE NO INPUT FROM HOUSING FIRST. This place needs to be CLOSED DOWN, it is SUPPORTED by the useless and ineffective COUNCELLOR CLARE MOSDELL – say no more, anything this woman is involved in is blighted! Maybe she would like them all to be moved to her neighbourhood.
This year there is regular attendance by fire, police, ambulance, mental health team at that property. What a waste of resources! If the supported housing provider cannot support their tenants then they shouldn’t be housing them, and certainly not funded to do so. Why should other local residents have to tolerate the constant anti-social behaviour by people who clearly have zero respect for property provided by the tax payer and zero respect for those around them??? Shut it down and sell up!!!!!!
You are absolutely spot on with what you say. We are a neighbouring property and have had to endure 6 months of drunken anti-social behaviour. This is the second serious assault to happen at the address in 5 months and nothing is done. The Isle of Wight Council and Two Saints who manage the property are completely ineffective. It is only a matter of time before someone dies at the location as the ambulance service are turning up every week!
Sounds very much like the company who are receiving funds and in very lose text, running this place, are an utter disgrace. Seriously, probably hard working tax payers money being used to keep this ‘doss house’ open but not a lot of control or rehabilitation of the residents. Why should the decent, law abiding residents who live near this flea pit have to put up with bad behaviour?why should the emergency services be blighted with calls to this address on a regular basis? Complaints need to be given to the council. This is totally unacceptable. Vote this council OUT at the next opportunity to do so.
And the Isle of Wight council…….say no more. Useless, the lot of them.
Councillor Clare Mosdell needs to pull her finger out then. If she is involved in this place, surely she must be aware of what happens here??? Perhaps she should move in next door and have these undesirables as her neighbours……ooooh, I don’t think so!!!!! Sort this place out and the people in it. They are getting everything for nothing, payed for by the hard working tax payer and still they continue to take drugs and drink themselves stupid then cause distress to surrounding neighbours. It’s not right
she wont do anything shes a taker not a giver
fully agree clare mosdell is one huge wrecker and a power freak never to be trusted
