Over the past 11 years The Sweetcorn Fayre has become a much loved event in the Island’s activity calendar and this year’s event at Arreton Barns raised a fantastic £18,000 for much-loved Island charities Challenge & Adventure and Beaulieu Respite, each receiving an equal share of £9,000.
Once again this year’s event was bursting with things to do, from live music at the Shady Lady Stage, The Dairyman’s Daughter beer festival, the world’s biggest Sweetcorn Fritter and of course the christening of ‘Nora Niblet’.
The cheques were handed over to representatives from each charity this morning (Monday).
Jane Gibbs, of Arreton Barns has said:
“We are delighted to be able to help two very deserving Island charities. A lot of hard work goes into organising the Sweetcorn Fayre and we are very fortunate to be able to help the local community where we can”.
Karen Eeles from Challenge & Adventure adds:
“Thank you to everyone who supported the Sweetcorn Fayre this year and we are once again very thankful and lucky to have received this wonderful sum of money. It is a massive amount for our charity and will go a long way to helping us fulfill our aims this coming year”.
Money raised will continue to help both charities with the hard work they do with each and every person under their care.
Tony Wake of Beaulieu House has said:
“Our charity is manned by solely by volunteers so every penny is spent on the children. We supply toys, trips out, computer games and specialist equipment that the council cannot pay for. Our aim is to make Beaulieu a homely place and make the children’s lives that bit nicer”.
