18-year-old Samantha Day from Rookley, who was found to have a combat knife tucked into her trousers shortly after saying she was going to stab someone, has pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article.
The Isle of Wight Magistrates Court heard on Tuesday that on the evening of 30th July this year Southern Vectis staff raised concerns with Police about a discussion being held on a Route 5 bus into East Cowes.
Liz Miller, prosecuting, detailed that Day had been heard saying on the phone that she was going to stab someone.
Police responded to the Waitrose area of East Cowes and soon spotted someone matching the description given – now known to be Samantha Day. Spotting officers, Day made a run for it but was chased and soon detained by officers.
A 7-inch foldable combat knife, with a blade of around 3 inches, was found in the front waistband of Day’s trousers.
Defending, Oscar Vincent told the court that his client suffers from PTSD as a result of childhood trauma. He added that Samantha had been left with anxiety and emotional fear on the evening in question as a result of an unintended meeting with someone who conducted an extensive campaign of bullying against Day.
Mr Vincent explained that Day was simply venting to her friends and that she never intended to carry out the threats made.
Magistrates heard that Samantha Day has a good work ethic and is currently on a traineeship at a local stable.
The case has been adjourned until 6th September for pre-sentence reports to be compiled.
The people that speak up and legally represent members of the public who, for whatever reason have broken the law or in this case, said she wanted to stab someone, have they no conscience, how do they sleep at night? Always excuses for these people.
