A 15-year-old boy has been taken to hospital following a collision with a vehicle in Sandown this afternoon (Friday).
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary were called to the scene on Perowne Way near the junction with Stower Place shortly after 15:30 as schools closed for the week.
Island Echo understands that the youngster was assisted by members of the public before the arrival of paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Police have confirmed that the injuries sustained aren’t serious and that the teenager has been taken to St Mary’s Hospital as a precaution.

This has unfortunately been an accident many many months in the making.
The diversion should have been 1 way and 2 way traffic banned on Perowne Way and the Fairway, Especially during the school term.
I was not a witness, so cannot speculate as to the cause, if the child was taking risks or if it was a driver mistake.
But none the less, there is too much traffic on that road, especially that blind hill crest at the entrance to Stower Place.
The Council, Sandown Town Council, Network Rail and Island Roads needs to intervene now to reduce the risk.
Yeah, I suggested some weeks ago that this diversion was a stupid idea, and that traffic lights by the bridge would be a safer option, albeit a pain in the ass. I predicted there may be an accident waiting to happen with all the school kids around, wish I was wrong. I wonder which dim wit suggested this diversion ?
Or a set of temporary traffic light put on lake hill while they paint the bridge then would of been no need for a de tour.
Temporary Traffic Lights, absolutely not! They hold the traffic up for long resulting in long tailbacks. Just look at the chaos and lengthy delays at the Yarbridge. I have to get through those lights every morning and afternoon, it’s a bloody nightmare. I do agree, they should have made the detour one way only perhaps, but residents on the route wouldn’t have been happy, they would have to go around the full circuit!
I think the road needs to speed humps removed and to be allowed to be used as a secondary route in and out of Sandown and Lake to take pressure off the main route.
More crossings should be provided with cameras to ensure the public can cross safely.
I saw a young girl in Bembridge on a cycle pull out very fast straight in front of me and cross the path of the car coming the other way on Thursday and she was nearly hit by that car.
Not always the driver at blame in these cases. Children need more ‘Tuffty not Muffty’ imo
There is too much traffic on any road on the Island. Full stop!
You are totally correct.
I have been saying for years how unsafe roads are on the Island.
IW Council and Island Roads are clueless when it comes to Road Safety.
With vehicles still parking on 1 side of the Road along Perowne way it is an
accident waiting too happen.
As for the bridge works this nonsense as been going on too long.
China could build a bridge quicker than it is taking to do up this bridge.
It’s not the Islands roads that are unsafe, it’s the drivers who can’t/don’t drive safely.
Drivers here drive way too fast for the size of the roads, not taking into account cars parked on the side of the roads and what just might be around that blind bend. I had a driver hit me on the Fairway due to him looking down on his lap, probably looking at his phone! Another driver cut the corner in Fort Street, almost hit me head on. Useless bloody drivers, this is the reason for so many accidents, don’t blame the roads. SLOW DOWN. TOO MANY DRIVING WAY TOO FAST.
A road is a road, they’re not dangerous, the pedestrians cycles and cars are the danger
I totally agree apart from blaming network rail and sandown town council. They hold no power at all.
The whole diversion should have had no parking bollards, been through a few times having to go against the main flow and it’s ridiculous! All the crappy old motorhomes and vans dumped down near that pikey camp site near the shop makes it near on impossible to get past, and all the houses along the fairway have drives so there’s no reason to be parked on the rd there either!
There is zero Health and Safety on the Island
This diversion has been in force for months now. What are they poncing about at, how long does it take to paint a bloody bridge?
It’s just not slap a bit I’d paint on, and watch it peel off in a few weeks.
They are taking all the old paint off, (which causes a lot of dust, which can and will damage people’s lungs/breathing) then retreating the bridge before re-painting with a few coats of paint so hopefully it will not need redoing quite a few yes.
Don’t forget these work men are doing a job that most people would never offer to do.
What? This diversion has been in place for ages just to do a bit of repainting? Someone needs a kick up the rear to get them moving.
They’re doing a lot .ore than painting
Has anyone ever seen kevs little pecker
