Shanklin Voluntary Youth and Community Centre has received a £1,000 funding boost to support table tennis and youth football initiatives.
The cheque, awarded by Sported, was presented to the centre’s newest member, 6-month-old Lola Bridget Biddlecombe, daughter of Centre leader Mark Biddlecombe, during a recent event attended by members of the Thursday Club.
The funding will help develop table tennis provision at the centre, known locally as TC’s, as well as support youth football in partnership with Shanklin FC.
Meanwhile, volunteers are continuing their fundraising efforts, with a special disco and activity evening planned for Red Nose Day. Money raised will go towards improving the centre’s disco and games areas.
The improvements are aimed at supporting the needs of more than 500 members who regularly take part in activities including youth sessions, table tennis, community choir, exercise classes, drama and martial arts.
Mark Biddlecombe, Centre leader, has said:
“SVYCC, with our partners at Shanklin FC, continues to adapt and respond to the changing needs of our members, always striving to provide a safe, welcoming and affordable multi-purpose centre for the youth and community of Shanklin, and the wider Bay.”
