A total loss of power on board a 100-ton fishing vessel led to a call out for Yarmouth RNLI on Monday night.
The volunteer crew’s pagers sounded just after 23:00 after Solent Coastguard became aware of a fishing vessel – with 6 persons onboard – in difficulty in the Western Solent.
It didn’t take long for the lifeboat and her 7 crew to arrive on scene ot begin their initial assessment.
It was quickly determined that the stricken vessel had no means of continuing its passage. Therefore the best course of action for the Yarmouth RNLI crew was to establish a tow to avoid the vessel potentially drifting and ending up in the busy shipping lane of Southampton Water.

Due to the flooding tide and the calm sea conditions, an alongside tow was used and the casualty vessel was towed to Trinity Landing in Cowes. Yarmouth Harbour was at full capacity at this time for a boat of its size.
The casualty vessel was secured safely alongside in Cowes where officers from Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team were waiting.
Yarmouth Lifeboat was marked as ready for service again at 01:51.
