Yarmouth RNLI launched to assist a 55ft yacht with engine failure during the early hours of this morning (Sunday).
The volunteer crew were awoken from their beds at 02:00 after Solent Coastguard became aware of a sailing vessel that had lost the use of her engine and was struggling to make way against the tide.
The yacht was located north east of Warden Ledge and being swept back towards the Shingles.
Having assessed the situation and ensured that all 3 persons on board were safe, the coxswain made the decision to tow the vessel to Yarmouth as it was the nearest safe harbour.
Prior to entering the harbour an alongside tow was established in order to safely manoeuvre the yacht into a berth.
Yarmouth RNLI lifeboat was ready for service at 03:45.
Out there again to help, everyone safe whilst the rest of us sleep.Well done Island echo for putting VOLUNTEERS in their report, lots of people still do not realise these brave crews are VOLUNTEERS. The lifeboat needs to be checked ready in case of another incident so it is full on for these VOLUNTEERS.
A yacht called D’Eau Nut actually first answered the Mayday call and was en-route to assist as they were nearby. Lifeboat was later tasked and attended. Thanks should also go to skipper and crew of D’Eau Nut.
