Yarmouth RNLI lifeboat was tasked to reports of a yacht bashing against the side of Yarmouth Pier during the early hours of this morning (Monday).
The All Weather Lifeboat was requested to launch by Solent Coastguard at 01:49 following reports of a 10 metre sailing boat adrift.
The volunteer lifeboat crew quickly located a boat that had broken free of its mooring and had drifted onto the pier in the ebb tide.
A crew member was put onboard to assess the situation and it was established that no one was onboard.
An alongside tow was established and the boat was taken the short distance back into the harbour, where The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team were waiting to assist.
The boat’s owner was alerted to the situation and was able to make it to the harbour to assess the damage.
The incident concluded by 02:45.

Someone’s not been paying attention when that boat was parked up, could have had too much booze at the time.
I think you wil find you moor a boat not park it !!
Your obviously not an islander!!
Be careful where you moor your car lol!!
Very well. Said clare
Why be in charge of a vessel and not know how to secure it to a cleat on a pontoon! Or did someone release it?
Most of these Sunday sailors don’t even have a basic wireless on board, Mr. Gungadin, let alone decent knowledge of bends and hitches. Braver men than I, or just plain stupid! Still, that’s what entitlement breeds…. Regards. Lady Dunne-Standing
Believe that and you’ll believe the moon is made of cream cheese, I have been sailing for 40+ Years.
Wow, 40 years is a long time to go sailing. Do you think you will ever try dry land again?
Not on the Island that’s for certain!
Good Lord, no? One can tell that people with more money than sense are back on the Island when yachts start slipping their moorings…. All about the rich: fair play to our Coastguard and Lifeboatmen, but no mention of the local lady’s cat stuck on a wall in Clatterford Road. Fire Bobbies did a sterling job but that lady was poor and wasn’t in need of the Honourable Member for Wight to beg Boris to keep ferries going for non-essential travel.
Get yourself a boat and you may actually enjoy yourself, then again maybe not!
