14 young anglers put their fishing skills to the test at Minnow Lake in Merstone on Sunday (9th August) as the Isle of Wight Freshwater Angling Company held its third annual junior fishing competition.
Youngsters, accompanied by their families, fished around the lake at the company’s Merstone site between 10:00-14:00 – with every participant managing to catch a fish.
This year marked the 3rd time the board of the Isle of Wight Freshwater Angling Company, which is run entirely by volunteers, has organised the junior competition.
After 4 hours of fishing, scores were added up to determine the winners while competitors and their families tucked into a lunch of hot dogs and burgers.
Noah and Oliver emerged as the competition’s 2 winners, with both receiving trophies for their efforts.
Buddy and Max also received a special mention after catching specimen fish during the event.
The day’s activities continued with a raffle featuring fishing equipment donated by members of the company.
Prizes ranged from rods and reels to a day shelter and bivvy.
Organisers have thanked everyone who worked together to make the competition possible, as well as Match Secretary Ian Jones, who officiated the event.
