The UK’s largest hearing loss charity Action on Hearing Loss has scheduled another hearing screening drop-in service, exclusively on the Isle of Wight for over 18s, on Wednesday 29th November at Argyll House Surgery in Ryde, between 14:00-16:00.
The service, which is a pilot scheme the charity will be running across the island until August 2018, will give locals an opportunity to drop in and have their hearing checked by trained volunteers.
At the drop-ins locals can complete a questionnaire about their hearing health before having their hearing checked with a Siemens HearCheck screener, which will take between 5 and 10 minutes.
Hannah Crookes, Action on Hearing Loss’ Project Manager for the pilot scheme, said:
“The GP Engagement Project is gaining momentum and it has been extremely positive to see so many people make the most of the service being offered and have their hearing screened. This service we are offering enables you to have an initial hearing assessment, which can give an indication as to whether you may be affected by hearing loss. We then work closely with the GP Practices and the Audiology department at St Mary’s hospital to ensure relevant referrals and appointments are made for you.
“Even if you are unable to attend this free hearing screening session on 29th November, at Action On Hearing Loss our work will ensure more opportunities are made available for you to have your hearing screened, and provide support in accessing any support and services you may require. With hearing loss known to have a negative impact on your communication, education, work and relationships, we would strongly recommend that you make the most of this opportunity.”
Sarah Dugdale, Practice Manager at Argyll House Surgery, added:
“We are proud to be working in partnership with Action On Hearing Loss to ensure people who have concerns about their hearing are being able to easily access hearing screening sessions. For anyone that may be affected by hearing loss, taking action and receiving an early diagnosis will no doubt support you in gaining the help and support you need, and prevent any negative impacts on your quality of life.
“We want to encourage people to take action if they have noticed any changes in their hearing, have their hearing screened and get the support they need should they need it. This will be the third screening session held at Argyll House Surgery and it has been encouraging to see people take action in addressing concerns they may have already. Whether you are a registered patient with us or not, feel free to come along on 29th November!”
