A heated row between 2 groups of passengers forced the captain of the Wightlink ferry to turn the ship around earlier this evening (Monday).
The incident occurred onboard Victoria of Wight on a sailing between Fishbourne and Portsmouth at around 17:30.
Police were called and were waiting at the Fishbourne terminal as the boat returned to port. All persons were then removed from the vessel.
As a result of the incident, sailings on the route are likely to be affected for the rest of the evening.
Obviously I don’t know how many people were involved, or how violent it became if at all. But it does seem like a bit of an over-reaction to return to Fishbourne? It’s not as if it was on an airplane.

If only we had a road tunnel linking us to the mainland all this inconvenience would become a thing of the past

It’s not always the locals some of us would love to have a tunnel, but you find it’s the people who move down to the Island to Retire, that object to everything
we moved to the island hated it so much we moved back to the mainland. that island is full drunks and drugs
We left the island in June 21, looking back it was the best move; we had a business on the island and it’s fair to say that the majority of people we employed were god damn lazy with no motivation , we also found many people to not like to see success in others and then crime ! drugs etc seems to be getting worse, toppled with being held ransom to ferry prices and timetable … I personally see a bleak future for the island and whilst i have some nice memories of my 11 years on the island I would rather move to Russia than back to the island.
Sadly your right, I moved hear 1973 at the age of 14, however, it was a fantastic place for children and quality of life, but now it’s no different to any other places on the mainland.

the police were called, didn’t arrive so Captain of vessel had to make decision to sail. The Crew dealt with situation. One police officer and dog arrived after the vessel set sail again 45 minutes later
Trouble aboard, put them off in a lifeboat with a cask of water and maybe a couple of oars

Why return to Fishbourne and inconvenience 99% of the passengers? Why didn’t the captain continue to Portsmouth and let the police there deal with it? Answers on a postage stamp pls.

Why couldn’t they have carried on to Portsmouh and had the sods arrested there rather than delaying people travel for hours . If the crew couldn’t cope they could have bought some plicice out by fast lauch to meet the ferry half way. Not fair to other passengers.
