Wight Eagles FC travelled to Bedhampton on Sunday (17th October) for their 1st away game off the back of a good 3-2 win last weekend.

The game started out quite evenly for the first few minutes but the team was caught out in the 8th minute with a very long throw-in by Bedhampton which ended bouncing straight Eagles goalkeeper Emily Weeks.

The shot took everyone by surprise and was a bit of a shock to the system for the Eagles, but they were soon on the front foot and the 12th minute saw a long kick from the opposition’s keeper – swiftly mopped up by Carmen Simonds.

Jordan Bradshaw soon latched onto the ball, beating a couple of defenders and slotting the ball past the opposition keeper to equalise for the second week running, making 2 goals in 2 matches for Bradshaw.

With the score now at 1-1, the rest of the first half saw the Eagles take a number of injuries while dealing with wave after wave of long throws and corner kicks which kept the ladies pinned in their own half as Bedhampton tried to force a goal. A fantastic fingertip save over the bar from keeper Emily Weeks towards the end of the 1st half kept the Eagles in the game.

The second half saw a change in goal with Emily Weeks already travelling away with an injury. Replacing her, Chloe Stanford did an amazing job after sustaining an injury on pitch earlier in the game.

Wight Eagles started out as they left the first half under a lot of pressure and were again dominated by long throws which eventually led to Bedhampton poking the ball home after it created some panic in the box.

The new score of 2-1 to Bedhampton gave the Eagles the energy they needed to take control of the game and apply pressure. In the 59th minute, a 30 yard shot by Faye Spink just went past the post followed a minute later by Abi Joyce bombing down the left wing and beating 2 players before seeing a low driven shot turned behind by the opposition keeper.

Within 2 minutes of that action, a goal kick by Bedhampton was intercepted by Carmen who quickly picked out Ellie Witty with a through ball. Ellie made no mistake in thumping home a 20 yard shot into the net.

With confidence now growing the team pushed on looking for the winner and with the Eagles’ defence solidifying, the team scored the winner in the 88th minute.
