24 tennis players – including participants in their 70s and 80s – have taken to the courts in Ryde to raise £1,250 for Age UK Isle of Wight.
The East Wight Charity Tennis Tournament was held at Ryde Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on Sunday (20th September), with matches played across 6 courts in aid of the independent local charity.
The event was organised by Age UK Isle of Wight trustee John, with sponsorship from George Bristow, owner of Seaview Deli, and Jenny from The Garlic Farm.
George also took to the courts alongside the other players, who included Martin Bostock, Vice Chair of Trustees at Age UK Isle of Wight.
Speaking about why he supported the event, George described Age UK Isle of Wight as an “amazing cause”.
Martin highlighted the importance of local fundraising, saying:
“We need every penny that we can get to support our older people on the Island.”

Reflecting on the tournament, he added:
“We’ve all had a really good time.”
As well as the tennis, the day included afternoon tea and a raffle to help boost the fundraising total.
Age UK Isle of Wight has thanked all 24 players and everyone who donated, with special thanks given to John for organising the tournament and George and Jenny for their sponsorship.
The £1,250 raised so far will help Age UK Isle of Wight continue its work supporting older people across the Isle of Wight.
The charity provides companionship to help tackle loneliness, information and signposting, practical help at home and support for people living with dementia and those returning home from hospital.
Donations to the fundraiser are still being welcomed.
