Police are attending a 2-car road traffic collision on The Downs this evening (Monday).
A Ford Fiesta and a VW Polo have collided on a bend between Ashey and the junction with Brading Downs Road.
No one is thought to have been injured in the crash, which occurred sometime before 19:15.
The force of the impact has ripped a rear wheel off of the Fiesta, which was occupied by a male and his young baby.
The road remains open for Newport-bound traffic but all Ryde-bound traffic is being diverted towards Brading.
Recovery of at least 1 of the vehicles has been arranged.

Ashey road is very bad ‘since’ Island roads’ now, albeit likely not their fault, has large concrete kerbs stuck out by each drain, AND then had the centre white line removed, BUT paint one down each side of the road, thus making the road ‘appear’ narrower than it really is.
This makes the elderly and unconfident, drive too far out, causing accidents, ripping off wing mirrors etc.
It would have been far wiser, WHEN the road to Ashey was worked upon, IF they had made the road slightly wider be cutting back the hedge, and tarmacking an extra foot each side with the drains installed ‘back’ from that.
Too late now.
If your theory was right there would be RTC’s there all day but there isnt is there hence there is obviously carelessness involved with at least one of the drivers.
Not Island Road’s hedge or land for them to just ‘make the road wider’.
If you start doing that everywhere that elderly drivers may feel “unconfident” then we won’t have any rural roads.
My point is not to make it ‘wider’ as it was acceptable before they added two white side lines, removed the centre line, and ‘put in’ concrete kerbs around the drains.
I don’t want a wider road, BUT it shouldn’t have been made worse than it was.
The road only needs a very small part widened to allow two lorries to pass, and the hedge could be shoved back as I am sure the charming land owners would be willing to give two feet of mud to ensure safety.
If I had my way, a path on the inside of the hedge the entire length of Ashey road, should be ‘taken’ and used as a cycle, horse and footpath rather than risk peoples lives on such a busy, and getting worse as Ryde it built to oblivion soon.
Putting £50 on Ladbrokes it was a chav
I myself was in the crash, with my partner and young baby, 9 months old. There was no “chav” involved thank you very much. The woman who crashed into us, in her 70’s, was by being too far over our line, she didn’t even have a license or any insurance, says it all really.
That’s an utter shock… It’s what you would expect from ‘chavs’, but a 70 yr old woman ????
So proof the elderly shouldn’t be allowed to drive??
How scary, especially having a young baby on board! Hope you and your family are ok. And to all the people with their jokey comments…i hope you never find yourselves in the same situation…shame on you.
Absolutely fuming how dare you
Damn, just lost me £50
A chav driving a van, driving too fast..
