With team manager Neil Vatcher away looking after the GB Youth at Scunthorpe on Monday, Isle of Wight Speedway co-promoter Barry Bishop will be deputising for him as the Wightlink Warriors compete in the away 1st leg of the KO Cup tie at the home of the Kent Slyde Kings tomorrow (2nd May).
Barry will be urging each team member that every point scored in the 1st leg might prove vital in the final analysis, with the return 2nd leg to come at the Andrew Younie Stadium in early June – but he knows it’s going to be tough. Looking ahead to the match Barry has said:
“It is going to be a tough meeting down there in Kent but I know that our team will be ready again to give their all for the Warriors. In our last National Trophy clash, we were never too far away from them really, and the final three heat results really did give a gross misrepresentation of the meeting.
“We are looking forward to have Benji (Compton) back in the fold on Monday too which will be a boost for the team, and giving the Kings are real run for all the points in every race.
“I have read that speedway is secure in Sittingbourne for the foreseeable future following a local council planning meeting this week which is fantastic news and congratulations to Len Silver, Roger Cearns and all of Kent’s management team on that planning success.
“Now we look forward to Monday’s clash and with Neil away I cannot wait to get going as team manager for the match, it will be a cracker.”
Although Benji Compton is ready to race once again, Brendan Johnson will remain out of action for at least another 6 weeks following an update on his arm injury.
After no home meeting last week, the Wightlink Warriors return with home racing at the Andrew Younie Smallbrook stadium this coming Thursday when they’ll be looking to take the points in their first home National League match of the season against the Stoke Potters. Tapes up 19:00.
