The election for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight’s Police & Crime Commissioner will take place on Thursday 2nd May and it will be the first Island-wide election since the introduction of voter identification rules came into force. Voters are being reminded that if they do not have the required photo ID they can apply for the document with Isle of Wight Council. Registered voters can apply for the free ‘Voter Authority Certificate’ and the deadline for applications in this election is 24th April. Full details can be found on the Council’s photographic voter ID page. Voters may already have a form of photo ID that is acceptable, including the following:
- Passport.
- Driving licence (including provisional licence).
- Blue badge.
- Certain concessionary travel cards (such as an Older Person’s Bus Pass or an Oyster 60+ card).
- Identity card with Proof of Age Standards Scheme (PASS) mark.
- Biometric Immigration document.
- Defence identity card.
- Certain national identity cards.
Claire Shand, Isle of Wight Council’s Returning Officer, said:
“In order to vote in person, people will need to be registered to vote and to bring appropriate photographic identification with them on the day.” “The need for photo ID will be new for a lot of Islanders and we want to make sure that people are aware of the change and prepared, so that the process of voting in the Police & Crime Commissioner is as easy as possible.”
Residents should look out for their polling cards, currently being distributed to people on the electoral register. For those who do not received polling cards, the council has a Register to vote page with relevant information. The last date to register as an elector for the Police & Crime Commissioner Election is Tuesday 16th April. For those who might not be able to get to their polling station on 2nd May, they can still vote by post. The last date to register as a Postal Voter is 17th April. Details on the Council’s Postal votes webpage. The last date to register for a Proxy Vote is 24th April, and this can be done via the Council’s Proxy votes page.

Why bother
I have decided it is not worth wasting ones energy
All the parties have the same WEF Boss
By voting will IW Council lower
1, Council Tax
2, Scrap the overnight parking charges
3, Scrap the scandalous toilet charges
“”NO THEY WON’T””
If you read the article properly it’s for the police and crime commissioner not the I.O.W Council elections
I did read it correctly, I won’t be voting in ‘any’future elections,
all are useless and none of these over paid persons
represent us.
They are all employed by the Government, says it all!.
This is to elect a Police and Crime Commissioner and will have no influence on the Council
I did read it correctly, I won’t be voting in ‘any’future elections,

represent us.
They are all employed by the Government, says it all!
Just as well you are not voting. The election is for the Police & Crime Commissioner – Not the Council !!
I did read it correctly, I won’t be voting in ‘any’future elections,

On principle I will no longer be voting. If you’re sent a voting card you can only vote once anyhow,so even if another person took my vote it would hardly make any difference and even if hundreds of thousands went astray it would still balance out as each one of those would be voting different!. Waste of tax payers money in first place voting costs hundreds of thousands pounds to undertake, just do an online one like when you sign petition.
Then please promise not to make any comments about the political situation if you opt out of the process.
I have already filed my card in the waste collection bin,
all a bunch of useless B’stards, they don’t represent us.
So sad that all this photo id for voting, only allowed to take certain amounts of liquid on planes etc is only necessary due to the importations, and not all by choice, of the untrustworthy from all corners of the world breeding us into their thought escaped troubles and poverty, here now.
When it was just local people, there was never a need to ‘prove’ who you were, as none in our midst were out to scam, bomb, hurt or alter the democratic voting of a civilised country.
This would be something we only seen in other countries, but, since the inhabitants of such are imposing themselves onto every once decent country, this is suddenly necessary. Thus proving if dim, it is the people of, not the country where issues are.
Lol. The most recent conviction for voter fraud (of the EIGHT prosecutions) was a Brit from Eastleigh. But hey, why let facts stand in the way of a(nother) good xenophobic rant?
Where is the link for the document?
You going to waste your life voting then?
How times have changed we now have to pay to vote for our Parlimentary representive with some sort of Photo indentification. Is it really worth the cost . So much for living in a free Country . .
You do know it’s free?
The photo ID issued is solely designed to discourage people from voting and it looks like that (as well as apathy) is working.
Not going to bother as no one worth voting for
Rediculous state of affairs, this is a back door way of forcing a national I’d card on everyone. Instead of lying why not just introduce it and be honest, limit the info to, name, date of birth, national insurance number and blood group. Anything else could be added later if the applicant wished it.
There is NO LAW AND ORDER ON THE ISLAND SO WHY VOTE FOR
SOMETHING THAT DOES NOT EXIST!
THERE ARE NO RULES, SAW 2 VEHICLES TODAY DUMPED ALONG THE MIDDLE ROAD
ONE IN A FIELD AND ONE IN A DITCH, OBVIOUSLY MUST HAVE BEEN SPEEDING
THERE ARE NO SPEEDING RULES ON THE ISLAND
A waste of time and money.
