VOLUNTEER MUD RUNNERS ASSIST MOTORISTS

mudrunnersDEDICATED 4×4 drivers from the Isle of Wight Mud Runners club provided much needed assistance to motorists and Police in Ventnor last night (Monday).

Following an appeal by Island Echo through the Isle of Wight Breaking News Group for a 4×4 to collect doctors and staff from Ventnor Medical Center, Mike Hobson battled through the blizzard-like conditions towards Ventnor, but it was soon discovered that the Mud Runner’s assistance was required elsewhere.

Several vehicles had collided and many others had become stuck on Newport Road, Ventnor near to the Crispy Fry chip shop. Police were struggling to control the incident due to the volume of 999 calls received with collisions occurring across the Island and therefore requested the assistance of the Isle of Wight Mud Runners to block access to the road and provide assistance to those who needed recovering from the scene.

Mike thanked those involved and for the co-operation of motorists via Island Echo yesterday evening. He said: “Would just like to say, thank you to all the people on foot and in cars for there cooperation with us by the chippy in Upper Ventnor this evening.

“We came to pick up some staff from Ventnor docs and ended up sorting the road out then blocking it from the top end on instruction from the police. Hope everyone got home ok and that there wasn’t any further crashes”.
