The victim of a fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the outskirts of Newport last month has been named as 61-year-old Alistair Carter.
Alistair, of High Street in Ventnor, died in hospital after being hit by a Range Rover on Parkhurst Road on 24th February, as previously reported by Island Echo.
His next of kin are being supported by specially trained officers.
Emergency services were called to the collision – close to the junction with Partridge Road – at just before 23:00. As well as local Police and paramedics, the Thames Valley Air Ambulance was scrambled to the scene, landing at nearby St Mary’s Hospital. Mr Carter was taken to hospital in a critical condition but died a short time later.
Investigations into the exact circumstances of the collision are ongoing.

The Newport/Cowes road is a rat race, living nearby we see cars and motorcycles exceeding the speed limit. If the lights are green at St Marys and now with the loss of the roundabout, there is nothing to slow traffic down. From the Cowes direction , its downhill all the way down from the Stag public house. If I recall the old council did approve of reducing the speed on this section of road, but nothing has been done to enforce it. Please note I am not saying this particular incident was caused through speed.
