The Roads Policing Unit (RPU) here on the Island has had a successful day patrolling the roads across the Isle of Wight.
Earlier today, at around 13:45 a white Ford Kuga was stopped on St George’s Way when officers discovered it was being driven without insurance since November.
As a result of this the driver was issued with a ticket, the car seized and the occupant left to seek alternative travel home.
Throughout the day, officers also carried out speed checks in Newport, Wootton and Arreton with numerous drivers found to driving at 39mph in 30mph speed limit zones, whilst 1 driver was ticketed after running a red light right on Coppins Bridge – right in front of officers.
This offence is dealt with with a ticket with the penalty being £100 and 3 points being issued also.
I think it’s terrible.
Good job I never went down the bookies on my mobility scooter this morning then, I had a huge bifter & a can of Special Brew for breakfast!

You only got to sit on Coppins bridge and watch how many police cars come down from High street and not only jump red light but then sit blocking yellow box junction – unfortunately the lights seem always against traffic from high street and a vast number of other drivers are needing to do same or never get out onto Coppins Bridge.

Now that Kuga doesn’t look like it belongs to one of those terrible youngsters driving around with loud exhausts that everyone on here blames for everything wrong in our roads, does it ?

Not sure ‘successful’ is the best term to use here, i would say it is rather disappointing.
successful is the right term to use for removing this car from the road
if they hit your car/property causing several thousand pounds worth of damage only for you to discover they were uninsured I think you would think differently
Shame they are not as successful with vandals and arsenists! Always the motorist much easier target.

This is ever since they disabled the speed cameras and publicly announced it people have flouted the speed limit ,…..just saying.
