Travel disruption continues on the roads and on cross-Solent travel as a yellow weather warning for strong winds and heavy rain is extended until 18:00 today (Sunday).
IW Met Service says that gusts perhaps as high as 70mph can be expected around exposed coasts and hills again today, although maybe a touch lower in strength than Saturday’s gales, especially inland where gusts around 40-50mph are expected.
Hovertravel services between Ryde and Southsea remain suspended this morning, as was the case for almost the entirety of Saturday. An update is expected at 09:45, although there is no guarantees that services will resume as the adverse weather is set to continue.
Wightlink’s Fastcat is back up and running after being suspended due to a rope being caught around the prop of one of the Wight Ryder vessels. Car ferry services to and from both Fishbourne and Yarmouth are operating to timetable.
Red Funnel has cancelled 12 vehicle ferry sailings on its East Cowes-Southampton route today due to an engine issue. This follows numerous cancellations yesterday too.
On the roads, Southern Vectis says its Route 12 is unable to use Military Road as it is unsafe. As a result it will divert from Brokk triangle via Newport Road, Afton Road and re -join the normal route at Freshwater Bay. This diversion will operate in both directions until further notice.
