Wind gusts of up to 70mph, accompanied by heavy rain, will batter the Isle of Wight tomorrow (Saturday) leading to a yellow weather warning being issued.
IW Met Service says that a deep area of low pressure will move in from the West, bringing spells of rain combined with strong and gusty South-Southwesterly winds.
Gusts of up to 70mph are possible in the more exposed parts of the Island with hills and coastal areas most at risk. Inland gusts of 40-50mph are expected, perhaps locally reaching 60mph.
Rainfall totals aren’t expected to be very high – possibly 10mm or so – but when combined with the strong winds this may pose a problem.
The weather warning is in force from 13:00 until 22:00 tomorrow (Saturday 23rd November).
Islanders should be aware of large waves around the Island’s coasts. Debris on roads and walkways will lead to slippery conditions with the added risk of surface water and spray reducing visibility.
The adverse weather could lead to delays and cancellations on public transport, especially cross-solent travel.
Wightlink is advising anyone planning to travel with them to check their website for further information.
