Video footage has caught the terrifying moment a tornado developed on the outskirts of Brading and began moving towards Bembridge.
Shortly before 13:00 this afternoon (Tuesday), this video was captured showing the funnel developing over the East Wight and extending towards the ground, increasing in size and picking up speed.
Earlier this week local forecasters IW Met Service advised of the risk of tornados.
Jamie Russell, Chief Forecaster at IW Met Service, has told Island Echo:
“The width of it and the speed in which the air is moving around the funnel leads me to think its a tornado”.
UPDATE – The tornado touched down at Yaverland, it has been revealed. Read more at https://www.islandecho.co.uk/120mph-tornado-rips-roof-from-building-and-causes-other-damage-in-yaverland/.

There’s no place like home Dorothy…lol
Lucky you. Some people haven’t got homes… wicked.
Perhaps those who ridicule warnings of such events, will think before commenting in future.
Whether it be rain, thunder, lightning or any other weather-related incident unfortunately some people suffer much more than others.
One day it may be yourself who suffers, warnings are there for a reason, in the unlikely event that you personally are affected, don’t say you were not warned, at least you have a chance to do something to improve your situation, should you find yourself in an unfortunate circumstance.
It’s not allowed in Bembridge, doesn’t it know.
Wow, i must go and get an electric car to stop this happening again
