A new yellow weather warning has been issued for the Isle of Wight with further torrential downpours, thunderstorms and perhaps even a tornado expected this evening (Monday) and overnight into Tuesday.
Forecasters at IW Met Service say that once again torrential downpours are likely in places with up to 25mm of rain falling locally. The heaviest downpours could see some strong wind gusts of 40-50mph in places, along with the risk of some fairly large hail – and perhaps even a tornado or waterspout.
The worst conditions will be extremely localised, meaning that not everywhere will see the downpours. It is entirely possible that they could miss the Island altogether, however, the risk for some severe weather is certainly present.
Chief Forecaster Jamie Russel says:
“If you are caught under one of the heavier showers/storms, it could well be in the severe category.
“Islanders should prepare for flash flooding in the usual locations, along with surface water on roads and walkways.
“There is significant risk to small watercraft due to strong wind gusts and the potential for waterspouts, with a risk of cloud to ground lighting also present.
The warning is in force from 18:00 this evening until 02:00 tomorrow.
This latest warning follows yesterday’s yellow weather warning for heavy rain, as previously reported by Island Echo.

Nah, a plague of frogs I could believe, but a tornado?
A tornado touched down on the Isle of Wight about a year ago
the US suffers both a higher frequency of tornados – around 1,200 per year – and those that land are far more deadly, England is home to the highest number of tornados by total area
Now you look stupid dont you after the tornado that hit Bembridge today, listen in future to the warnings.
what like the heavy rain we never got last night?
I got it instead in Northamptonshire. The thunder was loud and lightning with torrential heavy rain for a few hours. At least the garden has had a well-earned drink.
Ummmm shanklin had very heavy rain last night (about 11.30)?????
There was thunder too
DO YOU KNOW WHAT LOCALLY MEANS ? !
keep the weather hysteria going for the gullible climate zombies, nearly time for the rebranding of gales into storms again.
Can’t it wait till Sunday.
Turned out nice again………..
