Isle of Wight-born football content creator Martin Sanders is calling on Islanders to get behind him after being named as a finalist in 2 categories at this year’s Football Content Awards.
Martin, better known online as FootballMartin, has been shortlisted for Best Club Content Creator – Football League and Best Male Content Creator.
The awards celebrate online football media, with this year’s ceremony taking place at Liverpool FC in November.
Public voting closes on 8th October and accounts for 50% of the overall score, with the remaining 50% decided by the judging panel.
Born and raised on the Isle of Wight, Martin has strong local connections through his family’s former sports shop, Sanders Sports, which opened in Newport High Street.
The shop was officially opened by footballers Franny Benali and Alan Shearer when Martin was a young boy and also had links with Southampton FC.
Martin’s own love for the Saints began when he attended his first match at The Dell at the age of 9.
Around 4 years ago, he began posting short post-match reaction videos on TikTok before expanding his FootballMartin content onto YouTube and Facebook.
His channels now attract around 4.5million views each month, with supporters tuning in from the USA, Australia, Canada and New Zealand as well as the UK.
Martin has also appeared on Sky Sports and The Overlap, including alongside former England and Manchester United star Wayne Rooney.
He has interviewed former Southampton manager Will Still and Saints player Leo Scienza, while his regular matchday vlogs, podcasts and live shows give supporters a platform to share their views.
Martin is now hoping Islanders will put club rivalries aside and support an Isle of Wight-born creator in the public vote.
Voting closes on 8th October, with votes accounting for half of the final score.
Votes can be cast for FootballMartin in both Best Club Content Creator – Football League and Best Male Content Creator at www.footballcontentawards.com/voting.
