Public Conveniences at Ryde Esplanade train station are still no closer to being opened, as issues regarding the lease wage on. Ryde Town Council has agreed to take on, clean and manage the loos, but complete contractual obligations haven’t yet been agreed upon. Located inside the Ryde Esplanade train station, which was refurbished as part of the Ryde Interchange project, disagreements over who should be responsible for the loos have raged on for some months. The delays in the opening of these new facilities have caused issues for anyone caught short on Ryde Esplanade following the removal of temporary facilities just after Easter. It was originally hoped that the toilets would be open and be operational by mid-April, but no date for their official opening has yet been touted. The Ryde Interchange scheme is yet to be completed, with works continuing on the new café and final appearance of the building.

How much did the interchange cost another balls up at our expense the other week a friend of mine arrived at ryde pier head on a windy and wet evening no trains no transport so he had to walk down the pier he got saturated welcome to the isle of wight
It was a complete waste of money.
Vehicles now turn into George Street from the Esplanade, even
though they are not meant to.
It makes it UNSAFE for pedestrians, also the cycle lane is an
accident waiting too happen.
Simple solution give it a green filter like other junctions
Vehicles, mostly taxis, have been doing that for years, shudder to recall the amount of near misses whilst commuting
Island Taxis are Lawless B’stards
I would take their licence away from them.
How come something simple can’t be resolved?, little confidence anything more complicated could be by this Council , total shambles. At least put temporary ones back, only takes a phone call and sited same day – well if it was Jo public or event but with IWC probably lucky if done by next May!.
Is’nt everything just shit in this country now..blame lies corruption tax tax tax..everything just dose’nt work no more..
We have had 14 years of tory austerity, I blame whoever voted for them, again and again.
Typical HORRIBLENASTYTORIES comment
Looks like the walls will be busy.
Would be nice to see them open. but the smack rats will only be allowed to wreck them on the first night. We need tags and cerfews on this low life waste of space scum if we are ever going to get our lives back as they are supposed to be
It wasn’t broke so seriously needed fixing. Well done…..apparently.
the sea’s right there, just wade in and do your business?
Yes, but all the ferries have toilets so anyone coming across the Solent can’t really complain. Also, I can think of at least half a dozen places on the Esplanade and up Union Street and the lower High Street where you can use toilets. And, if you feel guilty about walking into a cafe, pub, shop or whatever and using the facilities, then simply make a small purchase or ask politely to use them.
I know we like to complain about everything, but do we really expect public loos to be available on every street?
What would you do if you were caught short at the top of Union Street and they’d opened the ones on the Esplanade? Walk down, go to the loo, then walk all the way back up? No, you’d pop into Wetherspoons or wherever.
The hovercraft have no toilets on them
The hovertravel toilets are for customers use, so that is also a problem
Good to read someone risking a rational point here! :))
Well said, Catherine.
I think you would be entitled to expect a major transport interchange to have a lavatory.
So what is happening with those at the Green St, St Johns traffic lights, been out of action for weeks.
It’s embarrassing not to have a public toilet in that area. Think of all the events that are coming soon in the summer. Can’t believe how long some things take to action over there.
This interchange is a complete waste of money. Not only have we lost the toilets, we have lost a nice little cafe as well.
At the same time creating a death trap pedestrian crossing, the council planners will soon have blood on their hands when someone is run over by a car pulling out off of the pier.
Ryde looks S H I T now, it was much better before the Interchange works were carried out
What dopey B’stard authorised these works?!, a complete waste of money for
NO improvement
The new bus station is lovely, even better when the cafe and loos are ready.
Last time I tried to use a bog in ryde there were 6 needles on the floor .. wonderful place not !!!!
