There are concerns that the East Cowes arsonist may have ventured to Wootton after another van was destroyed by fire during a blaze that destroyed a barn in the village last weekend.
As previously reported by Island Echo, at around 05:45 last Saturday (4th February) firefighters from Newport and a water carrier from Freshwater were called to Upper Woodside Road in Wootton after it was reported that a barn was on fire.
Hose reel jets were used to extinguish the blaze which grabbed hold of the majority metal structure destroying the timber frames that kept it upright – forcing the barn to collapse.
The incident was reported to the Police after it was declared by firefighters to be arson, though the exact cause of the blaze remained unclear.
Now, however, new information has come to light that a tipper van was also destroyed in the fire, with many wondering if it could be the serial arsonist who has been targeting vans in nearby East Cowes.
The van – located on site due to building and renovation works being undertaken at the location – has been completely destroyed by the fire.
Island Echo has been told that members of the community have taken precautions to protect their goods as a result with 1 person moving into their caravan in hopes to protect it from vandalism.
Just how did either the barn catch fire and take the van with it, or the van catch fire and take the barn with it?
The landowner, who would like to remain anonymous – has asked for anyone with information in relation to the incident is asked to email [email protected]. This information will then be passed on.

If true this person must be found quickly before someone loses their life.
I’ve taken it upon myself to purchase two wildlife cameras, I’ve set them up in the hope of capturing the culprit.
If you can afford to do the same they’re not to expensive I’m sure it’ll help.
May be equally prudent to buy a piece of 4×2 timber to save wasting Police and court time as prisons now being full with the third worlds rejects, it will likely just get a fine and social reports.
At least then you will discover the Police may ‘turn up’ to the incident.
All we need is a few good guard dogs, and sod what the do gooders say. Not enough being done to catch all this low life scum

I find it shameful and concerning. Yet the council tax precept for this woefully inadequate service is going up and the Police Commissionaire ‘spouts’ words?

How can the Fire Service declare the cause as Arson if they’re also saying “the exact cause of the blaze remained unclear”.
Also, “ The van – located on site due to building and renovation works being undertaken at the location.”
Is that not a massive clue as to the likely cause.. ‘Cutty Sark’, ‘Windsor Castle’?
