Households that pay to receive the Isle of Wight Council’s Green Garden Waste collection service can now renew their subscription – but it will cost more than ever before. As previously reported by Island Echo, the Isle of Wight Council has increased its annual subscription from £96 to £102 for the fortnightly service – an increase of 6.25% – which is now thought to be the highest annual fee for garden waste anywhere in England. This fee gives customers a 240-litre wheeled bin or 3 reusable hessian sacks to be picked up from the kerbside each fortnight. The council will accept garden waste such as grass cuttings, leaves and sticks. Current customers are being given priority to renew their garden waste subscription which runs from 1st April 2024 to 31st March 2025. If you pay by direct debit, this should automatically renew, and you will have received an email confirming your payment details for 2024. Double check payment details are up to date here: www.iow.gov.uk/gardenwastesubscriptions. If you pay annually by card, you will also have been sent an email with details on how to re-subscribe. Councillor Lora Peacey-Wilcox, Cabinet lead for waste, has said:
“We come to you and continue to make your gardening life easier. You won’t have to put heavy and wet garden waste in your car boot.” “Now is the time to re-subscribe for your garden waste service so it can be picked up from your doorstep, and means no more trips the tip with bugs and spiders in your car; and the bins are definitely much easier for brambles and rose bushes – much fewer scratches.”
Natasha Dix, Service Director for Waste, Environment and Planning, says:
“Our garden waste scheme is popular, and we are reminding our current customers to make sure they renew annual subscriptions to reserve their space for this year. “All garden waste collected by the council is composted locally here on the Island and all of this contributes to our national recycling targets. “Our garden waste service is a ‘one-stop shop’ meaning you do not have to call for collection each time and we will be there come rain or shine. “We will also be accepting new customers from 20th February.”

I guess more fly tipping on Island then as less sign up.
Difference being they are not being run by a bunch of greedy B’stards
just dump it on the side of the road It’s free
Not suggestion Dumping it at the headquarters of Chaos .. Newport ..and give the Cllrs something to do … clearing it up .. but are they
Qualified enough ??? To shovel $#1T ??
BOTCOTT PEOPLE!!! DONT USE IT OR LINE THERE CORUPT GREEDY POCKETS
no, as it is now the most expensive in the country, it is time to cancel it and dispose of garden waste in the nearest field.
idiots don’t have a clue
Don’t put in private land, drop outside front of county hall, already green waste and tree rubbish, nice fence too
I wouldn’t pay these Robin B’stards any extra
they are increasing Council tax in April
They are having a laugh
No thanks you can collect your bin when you are ready
Ripping of the senior residents here on the Island, those that cannot get to the dump.
This Council is soooo corrupt its just unreal.
Quite true,if you have a vehicle you take anything to tip for free, if not because you maybe poor you have to pay , still don’t get if you pay a waste carrier to take for you they are also then also charged for you’re waste. Yet still domestic and you have already paid council tax.We need competition. With green waste they then have cheek of selling it back to public.
I would expect the MP to earn his crust and ask the
Council why are they charging much more than the
Mainland charges!
Why renew .. not giving this shambles council anymore hard earned .. when they waste so much money .. get Jordan out ..
Rip off council. Poor services at over inflated prices.
Tax for the sake of taxing.
Garden waste double the cost of most Council’s.
Car parking is cheaper in city centre’s.
Parking permits at rip off prices.
£2 to park at night, only this council could come up with this.
Stupidly high council tax.
East Devon District Council charges £50 for the same service. Maybe those in charge need to look and learn at how EDDC can charge half the price for the same service.
Sadly the Island is being run by a bunch of crooks,
unlike East Devon.
Don’t forget the Council is run by a person who was once caught
drink driving and we have an MP who broke Lockdown rules his
Government imposed on people.
No wonder why the Island is now the Isle of Shite
Why can the council not see that people simply won’t pay this much
I used to live in Bristol. I also had a Gren waste bin. I moved end of 2022. We paid £50 a year for a fortnight collection.
