A yellow weather warning for heavy and thundery showers has been issued for tomorrow (Saturday), which is likely to impact on Jubilee celebrations.
Forecasters at IW Met Service say that during the early hours of Saturday morning the Island is likely to see some heavy and thundery downpours developing. Rainfall totals of 20-30mm are possible locally, falling in short, sharp, intense bursts.
However, not everywhere will see this amount and some places may escape completely dry.
Occasional lightning is also likely overnight and into tomorrow, but again this will be localised.
Despite the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee being on Thursday, many Islanders are celebrating over the weekend but it’s not looking favourable.
Localised flash flooding in the usual prone locations is expected with field run-off water likely in places, leading to a mixture of silt, soil and mud being washed across some of the more rural roads.
Falling tree debris such as leaves and twigs, especially around some of the heavier downpours are possible.
As well as the warning for thunderstorms, there is an advisory in place for large waves around the coastline between 07:00 and 22:00 tomorrow.
It’s said that East to Northeasterly winds will increase through Saturday daytime and this will lead to increasingly large waves to develop along Eastern and Southern coasts. Coastal wave heights of 6-8ft are possible at times with occasional waves approaching 10ft in height from Whitecliff Bay to Luccombe and 4-6ft from Bonchurch to Niton – and also from Seaview to Bembridge.
The yellow weather warning is in force from 02:00 until 11:00 on Saturday 4th June.
Like the festival, the bad weather awaits any event it seems.
Best stay in, cup of tea, stack of chocy bikkies and put the tv on, and save getting drenched and fleeced at beer near a £5 a pint, and food £20 for very little with no imagination, and even less entertainment.
Another Great British washout.
