Popular Godshill pub ‘The Griffin’ has announced that is to re-open in mid-March after an extensive renovation.
As previously reported by Island Echo, it was confirmed back at the start of January that the pub was to close for a few months to allow for a change in publican and extensive renovation and rebranding.
The previous tenants were told by parent company Stonegate that the lease wasn’t going to be renewed and that instead, Stonegate wished to run and manage the pub by itself.
Stonegate have recently been in the news after it was announced that they were looking to shut down around 1,000 of their establishments which on the Island include the likes of the Hogshead, King Lud, Slug and Lettuce, The Fleming Arms and of course, The Griffin.
Among the changes that are to be made include new toilets, lighting, a rejuvenated bar area with numerous TV screens as well as a new logo and signage – a preview of which is seen here.
The pub will be back open on Thursday 16th March ahead of the busy Easter period and the start of the tourism season.
I hope they still will be doing Sunday breakfasts.

Sounds a bit like having a weatherspoons in Godshill not my sort of pub but as it had good food great staff and even better breakfast I will try was excellent previously so hopefully with a re paint and up grade should be good but televisions not my thing I got one of them at home I don’t need to go out to watch tv I would rather socialise
