A woman who was the passenger in a car that left the road and crashed into trees at Afton last week has thanked the emergency services for their response.
As previously reported by Island Echo, the silver Toyota Celica left the carriageway at Middle Road and came to a stop in amongst the trees on Thursday night into the early hours of Friday morning. It’s said that the driver tried to apply the brake but the back of the car slipped and the car flipped – but thankfully landed right side up.
The occupants of the car had to be extricated from the wreckage by firefighters from both Freshwater and Newport, with the assistance of paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and Police.
In a letter to Freshwater Fire Station, which has now been shared, the victim of the crash has said:
“I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to the whole team that helped cut me out of the car. The driver tried to apply the brake but the back of the car slipped and the car flipped once but thankfully landed right side up.
“I have a few cuts and bruises on my face and 12 stitches on the top of my head which I guess is from the impact. My upper back, shoulders and neck are also in pain but according to the doctor, it’s just muscular from the impact. No fractures thankfully.
“It was a very scary situation and my anxiety level was very high. It must have been a very stressful situation for you too, none of you showed it and just showed kindness and calmness towards me as did the ambulance staff and police.
“You are all absolutely incredible. I, fortunately, got out of the hospital yesterday morning with all the wounds being superficial so the recovery should only take a couple of weeks max.
“Thank you again for being amazing heroes ! x”

stitches on the top of my head which I guess is from the impact…. That’s normally how it happens unless you hit your head before the crash
Maybe next time wait until you get home before or at least stop the vehicle before you try ‘something new’ in your sex life!
