The temporary traffic lights at Horsebridge Hill between Newport and Cowes have finally been removed, but motorists are warned they will return in the New Year.
The lights have been in place for a couple of weeks to allow work to connect nearby new homes to the sewer network.
Contractors working on behalf of the developer confirmed that the lights had been removed yesterday afternoon.
However, Island Roads has been told the connection has not been completed and therefore the contractors will have to return in the New Year to finish the work.
A date is yet to be determined.

There must be people reading this article who have some knowledge of digging a section of road and connecting a sewer pipe? How long should it really take? It’s just that to dig a channel, lay a pipe and connect it to the main sewer doesn’t sound like something which should take 2 weeks – let alone more time in the New Year.
Obviously I’m not an expert, but how does it honestly take that long?
There seems to be a huge difference between, say, mending a water leak which they seem to be able to do overnight, and things like this which stretch on for weeks. It’s probably not a good comparison, but several weeks to dig a hole and connect a pipe? Surely it doesn’t take that long?
Maybe if they worked weekends they would have completed on time
Missing the point
Why are hundreds disrupted yet again so private developers can make a few quid?
Because the Government are making local councils build more houses becouse of over population, and then use the tired old excuse of “Boosting the local economy”.
Think the job in hand was milked financially duration of works very poor..
I traveled into newport daily and traffic was woeful, every day never seemed to be any activity always contractors looking into hole, plant stood idle.was there not a programme of works in place …bus service was thrown into disarray..
If they actually worked instead of standing around or sat in their vans then would have been finished.Absolutely disgraceful
This is the work that would take no more than 2 weeks – welcome to the isle of wight
Where’s that in the thumbnail picture then?? Doesn’t look like Horsebridge hill…
Heard on the grapevine a while ago that the maps of the existing sewer network provided to the contractor were inaccurate, so through no fault of their own they ended up digging their hole in the wrong place! Apparently there’s been a battle between Island Roads and Southern Water about who’s fault it is and which one of them should have to pay for the c**k-up and for digging another (hopefully correct) hole! Might be worth Island Echo asking some questions of the official agencies involved?
This is True, the contracter doing the job are usually some of the quicker ones that’s why they got the job, but not if the sewer is not where their told to dig.
Should be like New Zealand where once a job is started it goes on 24 hours a day (including Saturday and Sunday) until finished.
“finally been removed” but back again soon?
When I drive through it’s the usual cliche, 3 numptys stood smoking staring into the hole.
The same can be said for the vile slime that inhabit county hall.
