Patients at {my}dentist in Freshwater could soon be left without a dentist, following news that the dental care provider is considering shutting the doors of the local practice.
Rumours of a possible closure at the West Wight-based clinic have been circling since the beginning of the week, with talks of a loss of services for NHS patients.
The practice, located on Avenue Road in the village, currently serves patients on the NHS and is just 1 of a handful of practices that still do so.
The {my}dentist practice in Newport closed its doors earlier this year, with the Ryde branch going private-only at the end of 2023.
There are facilities in both Freshwater and Yarmouth, but both of these are private practices, and as of the time of publication they are not taking any new patients.
A spokesperson for {my}dentist, has told Island Echo:
“In common with many dental practices across the UK, we continue to face recruitment challenges due to an acute shortage of dentists. As a result, we are considering closing the practice on Avenue Road in Freshwater.
“However, we want to reassure our patients that no final decision has been made at this stage, and we are reviewing all of the options available to us in an effort to ensure we have done all we can to prevent having to close the practice.
“Our patients remain our priority and we will inform them of any changes that may affect them.”
