A teacher from Medina College is set to push himself to the limit with a gruelling 100-mile overnight challenge in aid of the Huntington’s Disease Association.
Head of PE, Ian Rock, will begin ‘Mr Rock’s 100’ at 04:00 on Thursday (30th April), completing 100 laps of a 1-mile course around the school fields without sleep, finishing the following day on Friday 1st May.
The challenge is deeply personal. Ian lost his father to Huntington’s Disease and both he and his brother have tested positive for the condition and are showing symptoms.
Despite this, he is determined to raise both awareness and funds to support others affected by the disease.
Students from Medina College, along with pupils from other primary and secondary schools across the Isle of Wight, will join Ian for sections of the challenge in a show of support.
The school will also host a non-uniform day on Friday, with students encouraged to wear pink and green – the charity’s colours – and donate towards the fundraising effort.
The wider school community is expected to gather at the finish line to support Ian as he completes the demanding endurance test.
