A 33-year-old man from East Cowes has been arrested after being caught driving a lorry on false plates, whilst suspected of being under the influence of drugs.
Police stopped the vehicle in a layby at Whippingham earlier this evening (Thursday) and discovered that the numberplate being displayed appeared to be cloned.
Further checks on the driver revealed that he held no insurance, nor the appropriate licence.
A drugs wipe conducted at the roadside then revealed the lorry driver could be under the influence of drugs, with the test indicating a positive result.
The unnamed individual is being questioned in custody at Newport Police Station and the vehicle has been seized.

Unfortunately so many doing this now days,have had several parking tickets from mainland for my car even though not on mainland at the time,police and council sorted and all good at moment. Should be a tougher sentence for theft/fraud, could also cost someone
inocent their insurance !.
