The St John’s Angel Festival has teamed up with the Island Innovation VI Form, Newport Business Association and 23 local businesses for this year’s event – the 4th to date.
A-Level students who are studying Fine Art Textiles have been paired up with a local businesses to produce an angel, which will be displayed in their shop/premises until 30th November when it will be transferred to St John’s Church and form part of the Angel Festival.
The angel, together with the student’s research and mood board, will form part of their ‘A’ Level course work.
This year’s Angel Festival will take place on 30th November and 1st December.
On the evening of the 30th, from 17:00 until 20:00, St. John’s will be running an illuminated Angels’ Festival with all of the angels that have been made on display. There will also be light refreshments during the evening.
On Saturday 1st December the church will have live musical performances and all of the angels on display from 10:00 to 14:00. There will also be a Christmas Fair in the hall, with refreshments and light meals.
For 2018, St John’s Church is running lantern angel workshops in Carisbrooke, Newport and St. Thomas Canterbury Primary schools making angels from recycled materials for the Winter Carnival on 24th November. This is part of the Newport Festival of Christmas.
Proceeds from the Angel Festival and Christmas Fair will be donated to the St John’s 2020 Vision Campaign – an ambitious project which aims to transform the entire church complex at St John’s to provide modern worship facilities and an enhanced community asset for Newport. The congregation pledged itself to raise £75,000 for this and already the fund has passed £40,000.
