A journey through the heyday of nightclubbing on the Isle of Wight is set to take place later this week (Thursday) as St Helens Historical Society hosts a special public talk by Island Echo’s heritage and sports reporter, Warren Whitmore.
The talk will explore the history of nightclubs across the Isle of Wight, including the well remembered La Babalu, which opened at the former Ryde Airport in 1966 and remained a popular venue until the early 1980s.
The event will be held at the Community Centre on Guildford Road in St Helens, PO33 1UH, with proceedings getting underway at 19:30.
All are welcome to attend. Entry is free for members of St Helens Historical Society and £3 for non members. Payment is cash only.
Refreshments will be available and a raffle will also take place on the evening.
Those attending will also have the opportunity to join the Society, with annual membership priced at £10, which includes free entry to all speaker events for the remainder of the year.
